This one-day workshop will cover the basic papermaking techniques for western sheet forming. Working with cotton and abaca fiber, participants will learn pulp preparation, sheet forming, pressing and drying.
We will discuss the possibilities of papermaking as an art medium and look at images of artists’ work for examples. Alongside forming sheets to take home, participants will have time for experimentation with alternative processes, working with stenciling, embedding and learning how to incorporate color.
This workshop is open to beginners, and will give you the skills to incorporate hand papermaking in your bookbinding, printmaking or sculptural work.
The class will be jointly taught by London-based book & paper conservator Abigail Bainbridge and paper and print artist Chris Petrone of the Women’s Studio Workshop in New York.
